Why is Cobra Kai Ending?
Cobra Kai is written and executive produced by Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg through their production company, Counterbalance Entertainment.
When it was announced that Cobra Kai would end after its sixth season, the trio wrote a letter to fans evoking the journey of the original Karate Kid Daniel LaRusso (Macchio) since he arrived in the Valley in 1984 until today, where he has helped influence a new generation of marginalized heroes, formed unlikely alliances, and honored the lessons of his sensei, Mr. Miyagi, in his own dojo. And so, everyone could understand that this is the conclusion of the Cobra Kai journey the executive producers wanted to offer to Daniel and Johnny, and everyone else in the Miyagi-verse.
“Our goal from day one with Cobra Kai has always been to end it on our terms, leaving the Valley in the time and place we’ve always imagined,” they wrote. “So it’s with immense pride and gratitude that we can announce that achievement… While this may be a bittersweet day for fans, the Miyagi-verse has never been stronger.”

Will Smith, James Lassiter, and Caleeb Pinkett executive produce for Westbrook Entertainment alongside Susan Ekins in association with Sony Pictures Television. Ralph Macchio and William Zabka also serve as executive producers.
What Is Cobra Kai’s 6th Season About?
Picking up with Cobra Kai ousted from the Valley, our senseis and students must decide if and how they will compete in the Sekai Taikai, the world karate championship. “That takes things to the next level,” co-showrunner Hayden Schlossberg told Tudum about the Sekai Taikai looming on the horizon after the fifth season.
And of course, Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith) may have been defeated at the end of the last season, but let’s not forget Cobra Kai’s founder, John Kreese (Martin Kove), is back in play after faking his death and escaping prison. What could he have planned with his newfound freedom?
“There are many surprises in season 6. You will love it,” Kove teases in a behind-the-scenes video from the set in February. That sneak peek of season 6 shows the cast gearing up for the set, practicing martial arts, and getting excited for the episodes to come. “It’s going to be amazing,” says Xolo Maridueña, who portrays Miguel Diaz.
