On that day, the British newspaper London Evening News published a note in which members of the Conservative Party congratulated Margaret Thatcher on her newly acquired position as Prime Minister with the message “May the Fourth Be With You, Maggie. Congratulations.”
In 1983, during a Star Wars event in Texas, the phrase “May the 4th be with you” was used for the first time as an official greeting.
From there, the celebration of Star Wars Day every May 4th grew worldwide, until in 2011 Lucasfilm, the company behind the saga, officially recognized it.
