Inspired by True Events
The plot of Hit Man is based on incredible but true events. Directed by Academy Award® nominee Richard Linklater and written by Linklater and Glen Powell, the film follows the story of Gary Johnson, played by Powell. Johnson, a strict professor by day, becomes a deadly and attractive hitman named Ron at night, collaborating in undercover operations with the New Orleans Police. The story takes an unexpected turn when Johnson falls in love with Madison, a young and beautiful woman seeking his services to commit a crime.
Gary Johnson, under the alias Ron, faces an ethical dilemma when Madison, played by Adria Arjona, crosses his path with a dangerous proposal. The torrid romance that ensues between them unleashes a chain of lies, traps, and dangerous situations. The film intelligently explores identity and presents a gripping thriller with a “neonoir” aesthetic that highlights Linklater’s cinematic mastery.

The film features a talented cast, including Glen Powell, Adria Arjona, Austin Amelio, Retta, Sanjay Rao, Molly Bernard, and Evan Holtzman. Producers Mike Blizzard, Richard Linklater, Glen Powell, Jason Bateman, and Michael Costigan support this exciting project. Additionally, an impressive team of executive producers, led by Stuart Ford, Zach Garrett, and others, brings their expertise to successfully bring Hit Man to the screens of millions of Netflix subscribers.
The Instant Chemistry of Glen Powell and Adria Arjona
In the world of cinema, where chemistry between actors can make or break a film, Glen Powell and Adria Arjona found the perfect formula.
For Powell and Arjona, the chemistry was easy. “I first met Rick [Linklater] on Zoom, and then he arranged the place where I went out and met Glen, and we ended up talking for about four hours,” Arjona recounted. Although both were committed to ‘Sober January’, a month without alcohol, an hour into their dinner, they were relaxed, drinking tequila, and celebrating their upcoming cinematic collaboration.
For Glen Powell, the experience was equally memorable and magical. “Sitting down with Adria for the first time felt like the best first date, but also like I had known her forever,” Powell said. This mix of familiarity and excitement made their chemistry evident from the very first moment.
Hit Man Premiere
With an intriguing script and Linklater’s expert direction, Hit Man promises to quickly become one of the most-watched movies on Netflix in several countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, India, and more, where it will premiere on June 7.
